As a result of two fundraising initiatives, CAT Driver Training raised £1,798.21 for Mission Motorsport and £1,660 for Barnardo’s. The combined total was a heartening £3,458.21 for two Charities, both in great need of funds.

Evidence-based driving experts, CAT Driver Training, deliver bespoke training tailored to all aspects of driving: Road, Track, Race & the Motor Industry. Their varied client base includes car enthusiasts, racing drivers, motor industry engineers and driverless car developers.

Since its conception nineteen years ago, CAT owners, Jo and Colin Hoad have always looked to give back and support charity. In 2019 they started a new initiative nicknamed ‘CAT Smiles’. Every time a client agrees to have their photo taken for social media; CAT donates £5 into a custom Terramundi Charity Pot.

CAT Driver Training co-owner Jo Hoad said: “Just before Christmas it was our pleasure to reveal the 2021 ‘CAT Smiles’ total. Facebook followers tuned in to our live broadcast as I smashed the pot, revealing the total sum raised.

Each client participating in the initiative was put into a draw to decide who would choose the receiving charity. Tim Coope was the happy decision maker. His choice was Barnardo’s, a charity close to his heart.”

Tim Coope said: “I found out about CATs Smiles charity initiative during a great driver training course at Millbrook earlier this year. The team train hundreds of drivers like me every year so it’s an opportunity for us to help while having fun!

It was a surprise to be picked to nominate this year’s charity but it was an easy choice - though no longer with us, my father was looked after by Barnardo’s for a number of years before WW2 and he talked with great fondness of his time there. I am delighted that the money raised by CAT can go towards helping their continuing work in supporting vulnerable children in the UK.”

Andy Sallnow, Head of Public Fundraising at Barnardo’s said: “We are extremely grateful to CAT Driver Training for their generous donation to Barnardo’s. We work to transform the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children through a wide range of services including child sexual exploitation, care leavers and emotional health and wellbeing. This money will help us to support families to build a better future.”

Barnardo's Childrens CharityJo continued: “After supporting Mission Motorsport for a number of years, we’ve witnessed first-hand the benefit of their inspirational work, supporting veteran soldiers. In 2021 we launched CAT’s first publication - ‘Your Track Day Guide’. It was always our plan to donate the profits of this book - Mission Motorsport felt like the natural choice.

It’s our pleasure to donate the sales of our book to such a worthy cause. The total £1,798.21 raised in 2021 comprises all profits from book sales on Amazon, as well as copies purchased by clients directly at CAT HQ. A second Charity Pot contained the full value of these direct purchases, gifted by CAT.”

CEO of Mission Motorsport, James Cameron said: “Fundraising has been so difficult during Covid, at a time when the charity was being called on more than ever. The support of the CAT Driver Training team, and the community behind it, has been wonderful and not only keeps the light on in difficult times, it has also been a great encouragement for our work. The money will go a long way as we deliver a grass roots motorsport programme across the UK for those leaving the services wounded, injured or sick.”

Mission Motorsport FundraisingJo Hoad adds: "The entire CAT team, along with our clients, are lifted at the amount raised this year. In what is still a challenging environment, we are pleased to be able to support two charities, both of which are much in need. A positive way to see out 2021."
